Can a naturally occurring amino acid improve oral health?

University of Michigan and Newcastle University researchers have found a naturally occurring amino acid that breaks down dental plaque. This amino acid, Arginine, is found in foods such as poultry, fish, red meat, and dairy products. Arginine is already used in some dental products to help tooth sensitivity and the use of it has potential to decrease the amount of plaque containing bacteria in gum disease (periodontal disease). Stay tuned as research continues.
