Technology

Serving areas of Okemos, Lansing, and East Lansing, MI

At Tenaglia Smiles, we use technology that is at the forefront of the dental field to ensure that our patients receive the upmost care and feel comfortable during their treatments. Here are some of the technologies Dr. Christine Tenaglia, a cosmetic dentist in Okemos, uses to create unparalleled experiences and results.

dental technology

Digital X-Rays

As part of your ongoing preventive care, x-rays are recommended once a year during your six-month checkup and are taken when you present with a dental concern, pain, or emergency. Tenaglia Smiles uses digital x-rays that record images from a small sensor placed in your mouth. Digital x-rays produce clearer and more precise images in less time than traditional dental radiographs that require processing time and are not as clear. The images are sent to computer software to be viewed in digital format. Digital x-rays are incredibly safe and emit significantly less radiation than older x-ray units. With digital x-rays, Dr. Tenaglia can see exactly what’s occurring between your teeth and under the gum line along the jawbone, including roots of your teeth.

CBCT

Also referred to as dental cone beam computed tomography, CBCT is x-ray equipment used to capture three dimensional images of your teeth, the surrounding soft tissues, nerve pathways, and bone in a single scan. Dr. Tenaglia may recommend a CBCT to get a closer look at your oral health when digital x-rays aren’t enough, or to view your craniofacial region to aid in diagnosing and treatment planning.

Digital scanner

A digital scanner or an intraoral camera allows the dentist to capture images of your teeth and bite, which can be used to fabricate restorations like crowns, bridges, or Invisalign aligners, or to construct treatment plans for cosmetic or implant dentistry. Digital scanners also allow patients to see up-close what’s happening inside their mouth so that they understand the value of treatment.

Diode soft tissue laser

The diode soft tissue laser is used to treat various oral conditions like tongue-ties, a gummy smile, and gum disease. The diode soft tissue laser is incredibly precise and cauterizes tissue as it works, eliminating the need for cutting and suturing gum tissue. This means that the laser results in a faster recovery for patients.

BioPAK

Dr. Tenaglia uses the BioPAK to help in diagnosing cases of TMJ disorder. This sophisticated technology helps by obtaining a joint vibration analysis to study how the jaw functions. It also is equipped with electromyography, used to identify muscular issues within the craniofacial system. BioPAK also has a jaw tracking component that measures your jaw movement in a three-dimensional imagery for a complete TMJ consultation. BioPAK also records muscle activity with the M-Scan component, which is helpful in determining symmetry or function of the jaw. Additionally, BioPAK evaluates jaw density, which is useful in dental implant cases.

K7

The K7 Evaluation System is revolutionary technology used by TMJ dentists like Dr. Tenaglia. It evaluates and then captures three-dimensional images of the jaw’s anatomical status and function by employing electromyography and joint sonography. Dr. Tenaglia also uses K7 to study the function of your jaw as it opens and closes, to ensure that she devises the best TMJ treatment plan and creates an optimal oral orthotic for your TMJ therapy.

T-Scan

A unique technology used in TMJ diagnostics, as well as restorative treatments like crowns, dentures, implants, and Invisalign cases, the T-Scan measures biting pressure of each tooth and is significantly more precise than traditional articulation paper that marks biting pressure with transferable ink. T-Scan is simple and convenient to use, and it provides a comfortable experience for patients as the scanner pad is as thin as a wafer.

NuCalm

In a practice setting, NuCalm is ideal for patients with dental anxiety but can also be used at home to help promote deep sleep. NuCalm is medication-free and has no side effects. It uses neuroacoustic software to gently shift your mental state into a state of total relaxation as you listen to a scientific symphony of music or sounds that reduce anxiety, and help you relax. You also wear an eye mask to block out any light that may interfere with your brain’s relaxation state.
