Radiation exposure in the dental office

The State of MI Radiation Safety inspector popped into our office today unannounced to check the safety of our dental x-ray equipment. We of course passed with flying colors because Dr. Tenaglia always makes sure to provide the highest standards of safety for her patients.

This was a very important inspection for our office and our patients because dental x-rays are used on all of our patients. Dental x-rays are a useful diagnostic tool used by Dr. Tenaglia to detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam.

Many patients are concerned about the safety of dental x-rays. These few bits of information may help put you at ease when you are getting x-rays in the future. Did you know that a routine exam which includes 4 bitewings is less than one day of natural background radiation? It is also about the same amount of radiation exposure from a short airplane flight (1-2 hrs). Dr. Tenaglia goes one step further to provide optimal safety with digital x-rays. Digital x-rays use up to 90 percent less radiation than film x-rays. While conventional dental x-rays are safe, digital radiography is an excellent option for those who take x-rays on a regular basis or for those who are concerned about radiation exposure.
