Masks are Coming Off – Now is the Time for a Smile Makeover

Okemos, Lansing, and East Lansing, MI

We’ve all been hiding our smiles behind masks for the better part of a year. Now that masks are coming off, what’s underneath? Some people may not be as excited to shed their mask, especially if they were content hiding an imperfect smile. At Tenaglia Smiles, we want you to know that cosmetic dentistry can improve your smile, no matter how much you’ve neglected it. Is it time to get real about your smile makeover needs?

Cosmetic dentistry repairs damaged teeth and restores your smile

Most people get at least one, probably more cavities in a lifetime. For some individuals, that number is even higher. And in some cases, tooth damage goes beyond a little filling. Teeth become broken or chipped either due to accidental injury or neglect. Find out how our modern dental office in Okemos can restore your smile with cosmetic dentistry.

What’s a smile makeover?

A smile makeover consists of various cosmetic dental treatments with the primary goal of addressing every concern that you have with your smile. Crooked, misshapen, stained, oddly sized, or gaped teeth are common complaints that a smile makeover addresses. Smile makeovers are ideal for patients needing extensive restorations over many or all of their teeth. Some treatments may take only one visit to complete, while most treatments involving a dental lab to fabricate porcelain restorations may take a few weeks to complete, but the wait is certainly worth it!

Common treatments included in a smile makeover

While each patient’s dental needs are unique to them, here are some of the most common cosmetic dental procedures used in smile makeovers. If you’d like to know which options are suitable for you or to learn more about one of these treatments, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Tenaglia, Okemos’ preferred cosmetic dentist.

  • Porcelain Veneers – Handcrafted from the highest quality dental porcelain, veneers are thin coverings that permanently adhere to the front surface of each tooth. Usually, getting veneers for a smile makeover means treating almost every tooth. Veneers are ideal for concealing stained, slightly crooked, unevenly shaped or sized, gapped, chipped teeth or that have minor damage in need of repair. The best part about veneers is that they look completely natural. It’s what Hollywood smiles are made of!
  • Dental Crowns – In cases where veneers just aren’t enough to cover the tooth’s imperfection, porcelain dental crowns may be the best option. Similar to veneers, crowns are crafted from natural-looking porcelain. The difference between veneers and crowns is that crowns are made to cover the entire exterior portion of a tooth, unlike veneers that only cover the front visible surface. Getting dental crowns takes about the same length of time to complete but does involve removing more of the tooth’s natural structure. Therefore, crowns are only recommended when absolutely necessary.
  • Dental Implants Missing teeth are common among adults, and it tends to occur more the older you get. Teeth have to be extracted either from extensive damage, accidental injury, and sometimes a tooth is beyond repair. In these instances, dental implants represent the finest tooth replacement option available. For replacing single missing teeth, the implant procedure may take up to six months. However, if you have multiple missing teeth or an entire dental arch of missing teeth, mini-implants can be placed in a matter of one visit with the All-on-4 implant system. It’s the most natural and fastest way to get a new smile without getting dentures.
