The American Dental Association released data that showed dental Emergency Room visits have doubled since 2000 from 1.1 million to 2.2 million in 2012…that’s about one visit every 15 seconds! People often end up in the ER because of pain most likely from a cavity.
Most dental patients in the ER are only given painkillers or antibiotics and it still costs more than 3 times as much as a routine dental visit.
More than 25% of adults and 20% of seniors have untreated cavities along with 19% of seniors having lost all of their teeth. People tend to ignore their dental problems until they get really bad and then end up in the ERs because they fail to understand how crucial it is for their overall health.
Many of these dental problems can be handled by getting regular care and preventing serious problems from occurring that could end patients in the ER. It is very important to take care of your dental health in order to remain healthy overall.
