How to Turn Back the Hands of Time without Seeing a Surgeon

Okemos, Lansing, East Lansing MI

Seeing an aging reflection in the mirror is not what most people want, and they spend thousands of dollars a year on over-the-counter and cosmetic treatments to reverse aging signs. While some treatments may improve your appearance, they fail to address any other body area. Fortunately, the University of Missouri School of Medicine discovered that untreated obstructive sleep apnea could accelerate a human’s biological aging process, but effective treatments can potentially halt or reverse the progression. Therefore, our Okemos cosmetic dentist, Dr. Christine Tenaglia, shares on the blog today how to turn back the hands of time without seeing a surgeon so that you can discover a fountain of youth.

A Case Study

The University of Missouri School of Medicine’s Rene Cortese, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the departments of Child Health and Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health, claims that a range of environmental variables, including smoking, a poor diet, and pollution, might accelerate aging. People experiencing epigenetic age acceleration are not rare in Western society, but scientists wanted to learn more about how OSA influences systemic age acceleration in comparison to individuals who do not have this illness.

A blood test called age acceleration testing uses DNA analysis to determine a person’s biological age. The circumstance in which a person’s biological age surpasses their chronological age, which is linked to chronic diseases and overall mortality, is known as epigenetic age acceleration.

Cortese’s team examined 16 adult nonsmokers with OSA who were given the diagnosis to ascertain how the condition impacts epigenetic age acceleration over a year. They were put side by side with eight healthy volunteers who served as controls. After an initial blood analysis, CPAP treatment was administered to the OSA population for a year before evaluating the results.

According to Cortese’s observations, biological aging was sped up more quickly in the OSA group than in the control group due to the lower oxygen levels and sleep disturbances caused by OSA. However, in OSA patients who continuously utilized CPAP, epigenetic aging slowed down, but age acceleration tendencies in the control group did not alter. The data suggest that biological age acceleration might even partially reverse with OSA treatment when used appropriately.

Cortese claims that the key to CPAP’s ability to slow down the aging process is the regular usage of the device for at least four hours per night. It’s unknown how age acceleration will affect clinical findings, how it will apply to other risk groups, and whether it may affect children with OSA.
